Days after a four-year-old was struck down and killed at Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), the case file has finally been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.
According to the Divisional Commander of the D Division (West Demerara), Leslie James, the file has been sent to the DPP for further advice before charges are laid against the female driver who allegedly struck and killed four- year-old Ramkarran Mohan.
Mohan, of Lot 1088 Tuschen New Housing Scheme, EBE, was returning home in the company of his brother and uncle when he met his demise.
Reports are that the child and others went to purchase a ball around 11:00h on Tuesday last when the accident occurred. The uncle of the lad related that he was standing at the corner of the road with each of the boys holding his hands, waiting to cross the road when the silver Toyota Preimo, bearing registration number PVV 5084, struck Mohan.
The woman was reportedly unaware that she struck the child and only stopped after the boy’s uncle ran in front of the vehicle.
The child was rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The woman, who is the daughter of a senior Police Officer, was held by Police, but was later released on $20,000 station bail.
When Guyana Times spoke with the grandmother of Mohan on Tuesday, she relayed that the family had made contact with the investigating officer in the matter, who refused to give them any information.
“We are making arrangements to get a lawyer to deal with the matter, because we want justice; I want justice for my grandson.”
