U-15 Jaguars knocked out of CONCACAF Championships
It was heartbreak for the Guyana U-15 team in Florida at the IMG Academy on Saturday, as they were knocked out by Puerto Rico 6-5 on sudden death penalties.
Earlier in the game, Guyana played fluid attacking football and deservedly took the lead in the 32st minute through the talented Orville Daniels.
However, in the second half, the Puerto Ricans rebounded and equalised through Yavieric Ortiz in the 60th minute, the remainder of normal time was a midfield battle with both sides going close to taking the lead on a few occasions.
The halves were reduced to 35 minutes due to the extreme temperature, after extra time failed to produce a winner, it was time for penalties.
After the five initial penalties were all scored by both sides, it went down to sudden death, this was where Guyana fell and Puerto Rico held their nerve to win.
In the Group stage, Guyana won against St Kitts, drew with St Lucia and lost to Suriname.
