UDFA/Banks DIH year-end Christmas futsal reaches knockout stage

The teams with unblemished records, including defending champions Silver Shattas, Winners Connection, Capital Football Club (FC) and Milerock, are through to the quarter-finals after preliminary round play ended on Sunday in the Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA)/Banks DIH year-end Christmas futsal tournament in Linden.
Playing at the tournament venue in Retrieve in Linden, the defending champions Silver Shattas topped Group A with seven points, despite being level on similar points with Topp XX, after both sides got two wins and a draw; but goal difference went in favour of Silver Shattas.
In their final round robin match against Group A rivals Hi Stars, Shattas, who had a 3-3 stalemate with Topp XX, won 4-3 with Damian Williams getting two goals and Jehu Regis and Omar Brewley knocking in the other goals.

On the night, also in Group A, Topp XX gained victory via the walkover route, for their second win, following a no-show by Amelia’s Ward Panthers.
In a Group B encounter, Capital FC rebounded from a goal down to whip Blueberry Hill 3-1, with Emmanuel Atkins leading their charge with a brace, and the other goal registered by Mortimer Giddings Jr.
Shaka Lewis Cedric had given hopes for Blueberry Hill when he netted the opening goal of the game.
It was Capital FC’s third win in as many matches for nine points, but Blueberry Hill still advanced with six points from two wins and a loss.
Milerock, playing with just two other teams in Group D, pounded their way to a 7-1 drubbing of Rockstone, as Mark Fredericks slammed home a hat trick while Tyrese Lewis hit in two, and Roshan Kitt and Alleyne Aulley accounted for the other two goals.
Elon Simon was the lone scorer for Rockstone, who were eliminated, as they were previously beaten by Botafogo, who joined Milerock as Group D qualifiers.
From Group C, Winners Connection, with three wins for nine points, topped the charts after beating FC YMCA 1-0, with the decider coming off the boot of Cedric Hunte.
But FC YMCA is the other team to move on after they ended on six points with two wins and a loss.
Other results from Sunday saw Fearless getting a win after Coomacka did not show, and no points were awarded after both Net Rockers and Eagles United failed to turn up for their Group C fixture.
The quarter-finals will be played on Boxing Night at the Community Hard Court in Retrieve, Linden.
