Three persons were arrested following the discovery of a quantity of uncustomed alcohol during an operation by the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) on Saturday at a property in Windsor Estates, Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
CANU, in a release, stated that the property is owned by former member of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Ernesto Choo-a-Fat, but was rented by one of the suspects.
CANU also clarifies that Choo-a-Fat is not the subject of the operation, nor is he the subject of any investigations being conducted by the drug enforcement body.
Nevertheless, despite reports that a quantity of high-profile guns was seized during the operation, CANU stated that the officers did not find any narcotics during the operation. An investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, Choo-a-Fat, through his attorney, Sase Gunraj, said the property had been rented for more than three years, and, as such, his client is neither in possession nor in control of it.
The statement was made in response to a social media post published by Opposition Leader Azruddin Mohamed on Saturday regarding an operation conducted by CANU.
Gunraj contended that the statements contained in Mohamed’s post were false, malicious, and defamatory and had seriously damaged his client’s reputation.
As a result, legal proceedings have since been initiated against Mohamed in connection with the alleged defamatory statements.
