Unidentified woman killed in Herstelling accident

A woman, believed to be in her late forties, is now dead after she was struck down by a speeding car at Herstelling, East Bank Demerara (EBD). The woman’s body is at the Lyken Funeral Parlour awaiting identification and a post-mortem examination.

According to the Police, motor car PKK 3251, driven by a 45-year-old resident of Burnham Boulevard, Mocha, EBD, was proceeding south along the eastern carriageway of Herstelling Public Road at a fast pace, when the pedestrian allegedly crossed the road from West to East in the path of the vehicle. As a result, it struck her, severing her left leg. She also sustained severe head injuries and lacerations about her body. The woman is said to be of African descent and suspected to be in her late forties. Following the impact, she was rushed to the Diamond Hospital, in an unconscious state, and was pronounced dead on arrival.

A breathalyser test administered to the driver proved that he had no alcohol in his system, and he is currently in custody assisting the Police with their investigation.
