Unlicensed firearm lands taxi driver in jail

Twenty-seven-year-old Terrence Primo, a taxi driver of 14th Avenue, Diamond, East Bank Demerara (EBD), on Friday, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts and was remanded to prison on an unlicensed firearm charge.
Primo denied that on January 22, at Leopold Street, Georgetown, he had in his possession one .38 revolver without being the licensed firearm holder.
The court heard that on January 22 around 13:50h, Police Officers acting on information went to the location where they saw motorcar PTT 7817 parked and observed that the defendant was acting in a suspicious.
The ranks proceeded to search the vehicle when the illegal weapon was allegedly found.
According to the prosecutor, Adduni Inniss, Primo was told of the offence, cautioned and taken into custody and subsequently charged.
The prosecutor objected to bail citing the nature of the allegation and the penalty it attracts. Acting Chief Magistrate upheld the prosecution’s submission and remanded Primo. The case will continue on January 31.
