US citizens wanted for sex offences nabbed in Guyana, facing extradition
Kareem Abdool Hack and Julian Yhip, two United States citizens, were recently arrested by local Police and arraigned in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, where they will soon face extradition to the U.S. on charges of sex crimes.
They appeared on Friday before Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus, when applications for their extradition were made by State Counsels Teshana James-Lake and Diana Kaulesar-O’Brien, who are representing the interest of the United States Government.
Hack was arrested in Berbice, while Yhip was nabbed in Georgetown, pursuant to warrants issued by a US court. Hack, 35, of East Canje, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), has reportedly been living in Guyana for over a decade, and operates a tint shop. He told the court he was unaware that he was wanted in the USA.
Yhip, reportedly employed at a popular restaurant as a chef, said he wished not to contest the charges against him, since he would be made to pay a fine upon his return to the USA.
Both men have been remanded to prison until February 8. (G1)
