US Embassy hosts medical educational seminars in Berbice

The United States Embassy Humanitarian Assistance Programme in Guyana on Wednesday held two medical educational seminars in Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) aimed at providing basic knowledge on first aid and trauma care that could potentially save someone’s life.

US Embassy-organised medical seminars were held at the Roadside Baptist Church and Skills Training Centre at Number 68 Village and at the Regional Health Service’s boardroom in New Amsterdam.
Programme Coordinator Josh Oppenheim during the outreach said that medical knowledge is a valuable tool for anyone.
“That has always been a priority for us distributing this knowledge and helping the community with it,” he noted.
The seminars were facilitated by Espero Christian.
Similar programmes have been conducted in Region One (Barima-Waini); Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica and Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice).
Meanwhile, Guyana Medical Relief has donated $4 million worth of medical supplies to the Health Department for the New Amsterdam and Port Mourant Hospitals.
Chief Operations Officer Sharir Chan explained that the lab at the New Amsterdam Hospital received test tubes and cancer medication in addition to physiotherapy equipment, which both Hospitals received.
