US physicians to assist with training at regional hospitals

Health Minister Dr Frank Anthony has announced that several US physicians will assist in providing training to health personnel at local regional hospitals.
The Minister recently made this announcement during the daily COVID-19 update with the Department of Public Information (DPI).

He noted that the team should arrive in Guyana by the second week of November. Dr Anthony added that they will accompany the local team to the regional hospitals to conduct training on-site.
“We’re looking at Regions One, Seven, Eight and Nine. We’ll do some other regions on the coastline, but our primary focus would be the hinterland communities.”
To date, the Ministry has collaborated with the Government of Chile to provide online training on the management of severe and critically ill COVID-19 patients. The training will run from November 2 to November 20.
The Ministry also started a four-week virtual mental health training course for 100 healthcare workers across Guyana to help both them and patients cope during the COVID-19 pandemic.
That training is in collaboration with the Pan American Health Organisation/World Health Organisation (PAHO/WHO) and will end on November 14.
