Vendor committed to stand High Court trial for attempted murder
Twenty-five-year-old Revelana Smith, also known as “Ducky”, a vendor of William Street, Kitty, Georgetown, was on Thursday committed to stand trial in the High Court for the attempted murder of her child father’s girlfriend.
This ruling was handed down by Senior Magistrate Leron Daly, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, who noted that the evidence presented during the Preliminary Inquiry (PI) was satisfactory and sufficient. Thus, Smith will now face a jury.
The charge against Smith states that on March 26, 2019, at Pike Street, Kitty, Georgetown, she wounded Renetta Bharrat, a Policewoman, with the intent to commit murder.
Facts presented during the PI stated that on the day in question, the Policewoman received a phone call from her boyfriend, who has a child with Smith requesting that they meet in Kitty.
On arrival, Smith exited a car with a cutlass in her hand and began chopping Bharrat about her body.
Smith then made good her escape while Bharrat was picked up and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where she was admitted.
In fact, Smith is a known troublemaker as she was slapped with an eight-month sentence for assaulting an inmate while being imprisoned at the La Penitence Police Station for the crime committed on Bharrat.
