Venezuelan gets 12 months for break and enter

A Venezuelan national appeared before Senior Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Matthews Ridge Magistrate’s Court on Friday where he was arraigned on a break and enter and larceny charge.

Cristian Jose Cedeno was not required to plead to the charge but a summary disposal was granted and the defendant eventually entered a guilty plea.
Following his plea, Cedeno was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment.
Meanwhile, 24-year-old Richard Chase of Lot 231 Bristol Street, No 2 Village, East Canje, Berbice, was also arraigned for a break and enter and larceny charge.
Chase made his appearance at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court.
The charge was laid under Section 229 (a) of the Criminal Law Offences Act Chapter 8:01. It is alleged that between June 14, 2020, and June 15, 2020, he committed the act.
The defendant was placed on $200,000 bail by presiding Magistrate Renita Singh. He is set to reappear in court on June 1, 2021.
Similarly, Clifton Ramsarran also known as “Witch” was charged for a similar offence.
It is alleged that between April 8, 2021, and April 19, 2021, he broke and entered a property at No 2 Village, East Canje, Berbice. Ramsarran was not required to plead and was granted bail in the sum of $200,000.
The matter was also adjourned to June 1, 2021.
