Driver allegedly beaten by armed men in heavily-tinted vehicles in Berbice

Twenty-three-year-old Vevekanand Singh, a driver of Section B No 68 Village Corentyne, Berbice, was allegedly beaten by a group of armed men on Friday evening along the No 66 Public Road.
Based on reports received, on the day in question at about 17:30h, Singh was proceeding south in his motor car when two vehicles suddenly came up behind him. They were both heavily tinted.
He was reportedly intercepted by the vehicles. Singh told detectives that three men exited one of the vehicles and another one from the second vehicle. They were all armed with small black guns.
The men reportedly walked up to the victim’s car, pulled him out and began to beat him with their guns. After committing the act, the men boarded their vehicles and left the scene.
The injured man was later rescued by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Skeldon Hospital where he was treated for his injuries. An investigation has been launched.
