Professional tennis player Sachia Vickery is set to make her debut for Guyana at the 2026 South American Games in Rosario, Argentina, marking a significant milestone for both the player and tennis in the country.
Vickery, who has extensive international and Grand Slam experience and reached a career-high singles ranking of number 73 in the world, is seeded seventh in the women’s singles competition. She received a first-round bye and advanced directly to the Round of 16, where she will face Paraguay’s L Brítez Risso for a place in the quarter-finals.
The appearance marks Vickery’s first Olympic-cycle Games and the beginning of a new chapter in her international career as she seeks to represent Guyana in her pursuit of qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

During a recent visit to Guyana, Vickery held discussions with the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) and Guyana Tennis Association (GTA) about her interest in representing the country. The GOA subsequently welcomed her commitment and supported her plans to pursue Olympic qualification.
Vickery’s arrival adds considerable international experience to Guyana’s tennis contingent, as she has competed at the highest levels of the sport during a career that has taken her onto the Grand Slam stage.
Her participation also represents a landmark moment for the GTA, as it marks the first time the association has fielded a senior athlete at an Olympic-cycle multisport games.
Vickery travelled to Rosario accompanied by her mother and is scheduled to hold her first practice session earlier in the week as she prepares for her opening match.
Her debut is expected to further raise the profile of tennis in Guyana while providing an opportunity for local players to draw inspiration from an athlete with extensive experience on the international circuit.
As Vickery begins her journey under the Golden Arrowhead, her participation at the South American Games signals a new chapter in her relationship with Guyana and the country’s tennis programme.
