Visually impaired camp participants enjoy golf experience at Westside Golf Course

Westside Golf Course welcomed 32 children who are blind or visually impaired, along with support staff, for a special golf outing as part of the Guyana Council of Organisations for Persons with Disabilities (GCOPD) Independent Living Skills Day Camp.
The camp was organised by GCOPD in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, United Women for Special Children (UWSC), and ExxonMobil.
Participants were introduced to the fundamentals of golf by coaches from the Guyana Golf Association and Nexgen Golf Academy using adapted teaching techniques designed to make the sport accessible to everyone.
The children enjoyed lunch and snacks and even took part in a lively game of blind cricket on the grounds. GCOPD organiser Ganesh Singh thanked Guyana Golf Association President Aleem Hussain and the Westside Golf Course team for their continued support.

“Mr Hussain and our organisation first partnered several years ago, and it is encouraging to see his continued commitment to programmes that create opportunities for persons with disabilities,” Singh said.
Hussain reaffirmed the Guyana Golf Association’s commitment to making golf inclusive and accessible, noting that the association will continue to partner with organisations that use sport to promote confidence, independence, and equal opportunity for all.
Westside Golf Course continues to serve not only as Guyana’s premier public golf facility but also as a hub for community engagement, education, and inclusive sporting opportunities.
The success of the day’s activities highlighted the power of partnerships in creating opportunities that promote confidence, independence, and social inclusion for all.
