Vreed-en-Hoop gas station employees beaten during robbery

Two armed men, on Monday night, held up and beat several employees of Sir Gas Station at New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara during a robbery.

The incident occurred at about 21:45h when the female supervisor was about to exit the premises after closing up the gas station.

According to information, the two suspects donning black masks ran into the gas station and held them up. One of the bandits then discharged a round into the air, ran to the security guard on duty and assaulted him, whilst the other suspect forced the female supervisor back into the office and demanded she hands over the keys to the drawer.

The bandit emptied the drawer, containing an undisclosed sum of money and carted off.

On his way out, he encountered another employee at the back of the gas station and lashed him to the right side of his head with his weapon causing him to receive injuries.

The bandits then made good their escape in a white motorcar that was waiting for them a short distance away.

The security guard and the other employee were both escorted to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where they were treated and sent away.

Investigations are ongoing.
