Vryheid’s Lust resident jailed for illegal gun

The Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara (ECD) resident caught by ranks on Sunday last at Plaisance carrying an illegal gun, along with matching ammunition and an improvised weapon, hidden in a haversack was on Wednesday jailed for four years.

Jailed: Rayfield Pickering

Rayfield Pickering, 33, a labourer of Lot 113, South Vryheid’s Lust, ECD, admitted to the charge read to him by Magistrate Alicia George at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court.
The charge stated that on May 13, 2018 at Victoria Road, Plaisance, ECD, he was found to be in possession of an unlicensed .32 revolver, along with two live rounds, a spent shell and an improvised pistol.
The prosecution’s case stated that Pickering was found with the revolver and ammunition hidden in his crotch upon being searched.
As such, he was arrested and questioned after which he was charged with the offence.
