WDCA President’s Cup semifinals set for Sunday

The West Demerara Cricket Association (WDCA) President’s Cup 50-over tournament will resume this Sunday with two semifinal showdowns, commencing at 09:00h.
In semifinal one, Independence Sports Club (A) will attempt to overthrow Zeeburg Sports club at Joe Vieira Park, while in semifinal two, McGill Super Stars will do battle with CI Sports Club at Canal #2.
The competition promises to be exciting as all teams participating have worked extremely hard to get to where they are currently.

possess one of the most lethal bowling attacks in the competition. In their last matchup against Independence Sports Club, Zeeburg were bowled out for 134. However, that didn’t stop them, as they returned to clip the wings of Independence by bowling them out for 101, thanks to the efforts of Yutesh Dhanpaul 3-29, Ganesh Narine 3-19 and Andre Seepersaud 3-32.
Semifinal two will be one of the most highly anticipated matches, as Cornelia Ida will be expected to defeat McGill Super Stars but the inform Richie Looknauth has been consistent throughout the tournament with both bat and ball, as in his last match he chipped in with an aggressive 38 and rounded off the day with 2-38.
Some of the players to watch out for in semifinal one are Yutesh Dhanpaul, Ronaldo Renee, Malcolm Hubbard, Andre Seepersaud and Mark Jeffers, all of Zeeburg; while the One Independence Sports Club will feature the likes of Safraz Esau, Mahendra Dhanpaul, Ewart Samuels, Vivian Beckles, Anand Bharat and Javon Hector.
In semifinal two, Cornelia Ida will feature the likes of Naveed Ali, Richie Looknauth, Avishkar Ramgobin and Shameer Khan as they will attempt to take the team over the line for their fellow team mate Akshaya Persaud, who is representing the Guyana Jaguars in the West Indies Regional Four Day Tournament.
The McGill Super Stars will also have the services of Suresh Persaud, Travis Persaud, Troy Persaud, Daniel Basdeo, Abdool Razack, Balram Aron and Shafiek Deen.
The finals will be played on January 27 at a venue yet to be announced.
