West Ruimveldt man charged with robbery

A West Ruimveldt man was on Thursday placed before the courts charged with robbery.
Dexter Ford, 22, of Lot 35 West Ruimveldt, Georgetown appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts before Magistrate Leslie Benjamin.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on November 7, 2016, he stole one cell phone valued ,000 and 00 cash from Corletta Nurse. The prosecution contended that the defendant, on the day in question, carried out the daring robbery in broad daylight.
The Prosecutor reported that Nurse was walking along the roadway when the defendant rolled up on a bicycle and snatched her purse containing the abovementioned items.
The woman raised an alarm and public-spirited persons gave chase, catching up with the defendant.
He was detained and was later handed over to the Police who charged him with the offence. The prosecution unsuccessfully objected to bail because of the prevalence of such offences. Bail was granted at ,000.
