What course?…for PNC?

There’s a heated debate going on about Aubrey Norton hanging on as leader of the PNC!! Much of the complaints we’re hearing come from disgruntled second- or third-tier leaders who bemoan him falling short – in one way or another – of the “Founder-Leader” Forbes “Fat Boy” Burnham!! One insider analyst recently compared him unfavourably to Burnham’s successor Desmond Hoyte – who’d once fired him as General Secretary saying it was his prerogative to do so – since Norton was his “creature”!! The unfortunate meaning suggesting an “animal” stuck – even though Hoyte meant that he had “created” the GS as per the PNC constitution!
Anyhow, your Eyewitness feels that Norton is acting in the BEST interest of the PNC – since it’s a leader’s duty to do whatever is necessary for his organisation’s long-term interest!! So the question we must answer is, “What’s best for the PNC at this time?” And the short answer is that the PNC must die. It must be allowed to fade away into oblivion!! And every leader since Desmond Hoyte saw the need for that! Directly upon assuming office, Hoyte got rid of all the Burnhamites and charted a new course economically and otherwise!! He ruefully told the PNC analyst that he was then called “Desmond Persaud” for abandoning Burnham’s co-operativism and adopting free market development!! Didn’t work!!
So he added an appendage called “Reform” by bringing in some newbies and changed the party’s name to “PNC-R”!! Didn’t work!! His successor Corbin then changed the name to PNC-1 Guyana – with the Freudian acronym, PNC-R1G!! Didn’t work!! His hand-picked successor David Granger went into a coalition with a bevy of one-man parties and changed the name to APNU!! Didn’t work!! No one fell for the ploy – especially when the PNC leader incessantly pulled rank as the “largest member of the coalition” and made unilateral decisions!! The WPA once sucked their teeth and walked away because of this lack of consultation!!
The bottom line is Norton has realised that with the PNC, “it can run – but it can’t hide!!” It can’t hide its sordid reputation for election-rigging, racially directed violence and authoritarian leaders!! But all of these come from the playbook of the Founder Leader, of course!! So it’s more than a tad ironic that Norton’s being compared unfavourably to the poster boy of PNC’s excesses!! Knowing that all the previous efforts to disguise the PNC failed, Norton is making the ultimate sacrifice to do all in his power to ensure it dies!!
In this way, a NEW party can finally arise – free from PNC’s stained history!! This would be able to articulate the interests of those who may not appreciate the PPP or Irfaan’s One Love in his One Guyana!!

Pressie took a gamble when he signed that MOU with the US revolutionary compute and inference data centre by start-up Cerebras – which had declared it was throwing the gauntlet to powerhouse NVIDIA!! It was a gamble because it was pioneering a new technology with its wafer-sized chip that had been the Holy Grail for years. While some of the biggies like OpenAI – which runs ChatGPT – have given it a vote of confidence through funding and decade-long, billion-dollar contracts in the world of business, it’s the market that ultimately decides the fate of companies!!
Well, Cerebras just floated its IPO – the first offering of shares to the stock market to be traded – and the reaction was mind-blowing!! Intending to raise some US$3.5B, the company raked in US$5.5 billion on Thursday with $185/share rather than the expected US$115 to $125! That’s cash for the company to invest – as in the Berbice Data Centre to satisfy its customers – and backstop Exxon’s pipeline investment!!
Let’s sign that contract!!

…on Elections
According to the Carter Center, the PPP has proven that it can finagle to win elections. But they want the electoral system changed to make things easier for the Opposition.
Like independents running for the presidency, like in the USA!!
