What will become of the research programme?

Dear Editor,
I saw the GuySuCo CEO Sasenarine Singh, on May 20, 2022, in a section of the media, saying that the sugar company’s research fields were being transferred to Blairmont Estate.
Having read the article, I am convinced that he is far out at sea, and appears to me clueless about what are the implications of the damage inflicted.
Editor, transferral of the research fields is an exercise that requires careful planning and execution, and cannot be accomplished in a willy-nilly way, as the CEO makes it sound. Of course, anyone with an iota of experience would know that. Alarmingly, it appears that most of the technical personnel are not part of the transfer.
I wonder what will become of the research programme following its hasty abortion at LBI.
Editor, sugar, like any agricultural crop, is based on certain scientific principles. It cannot be tinkered with, as some may believe. Of course, the current CEO, from conversations I have had, is no sugar expert, no matter his rantings.
Given his current course, I must say it appears to me GuySuCo will implode within a year, and the sugar industry will be no more. I must wonder whether his appointment was designed to make him a willing handmaiden to the industry’s destruction.

Yours faithfully,
Liebert Alleyne
