– Clash of the Champions set for February
In 2016, two separate futsal tournaments were held at two separate locations locally where two separate champions were crowned. However, the question that requires an answer is, who are the true champions?
That question will be answered after the two champions clash in the biggest futsal war in the inaugural New Entertainment/Eyefull Entertainment Stag Beer Futsal Clash of the Champions.
The prospect for this event seemed to be all but ideas until the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) recently gave thumbs up to the contest. The two day competition will be played on February 11 and 18 at different venues.
There will be four official games as well as two exhibition games on each night with the two teams who will be battling for the top honours playing each other on both nights.
The two teams that will take to the court will be Dave and Celena’s Hustlers who won the Mohamed’s Enterprise New Era Entertainment Cell Smart Futsal tournament in Linden and Sparta Boss who were victorious in the Guinness Greatness of the Streets in Georgetown.
The crucial first leg will be at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue in Georgetown with Bent Street going up against Tucville in the first match followed by Gold is money facing Tiger Bay and Broad Street battling Leopold Street before the main event.
The following week, February 18, the games move over to the McKenize Sports Club Hard Court, Linden where Magic Stars will play Good Fellas and town cars (Georgetown taxi drivers) taking on Linden bus (linden bus drivers).
The Georgetown-based side Sparta Boss made a successful defence of their Guinness “Greatest of the Street” football title when they won it for the second time in as many years defeating Tucville 1-0 while Hustlers fought with sweat and bones to dethrone Magic Stars in the Mohamed’s Enterprise Linden Futsal Tournament to book their matches with the Georgetown champs.
Both teams have gathered an enormous fan base as they continue to produce some breath taking skills and entertainment for the large crowds night after night. It will be particularly interesting to see who will take it as it provides a home and away scenario for both teams.
The style of play for both teams is different from each other and this will be providing a competition like never seen before.
The matches will be played on a six a side basis inclusive on 5 players and a goal keeper, using the large goal and run under the rules of the Guyana Futsal Association.
