WI Academy defeat Scorpions in CG United Super50 match

Defending champions Jamaica Scorpions remained winless in this year’s CG United Regional Super50 after suffering a six-wicket loss to West Indies Academy at Queen’s Park Oval.
Scorpions won the toss yesterday and opted to take first strike, wherein they posted 263 for nine. Academy responded with 227 for four in 37.3 overs, and won via the Duckworth Lewis and Stern method.
Kirk McKenzie led the Scorpions’ batting attack with 84 from 102 balls, as he belted two sixes and five fours across the field. Rovman Powell found his groove with the bat and clubbed seven boundaries, including a six during his 55-ball 53. Jeavor Royal complimented with 27.
Nyeem Young was the pick of the Academy bowlers, bagging 5-49, while McKenny Clarke took 2-27.
Teddy Bishop produced another masterful innings, this time scoring a ball-a-run 67 not out. His innings was laced with two sixes and three fours. Leonardo Julien was also able to chalk up a second half-century of the tournament, scoring 52 runs in 48 balls. Julien’s innings was highlighted by seven boundaries, including a six.
Kevin Wickham also got a start with 37 from 43 balls, before being bowled by Shalome Parnell (2-43). Matthew Nandu chipped in with 19 and Ackeem Auguste made 15 not out.
