Eighteen-year-old housewife Lorinda Thomas of Barama Line, Baramita, North West District in Region One died at the Baramita Health Centre on Thursday after allegedly receiving a severe beating from her reputed husband on Wednesday night.
Guyana Times understands that the young woman had been imbibing with family members on Wednesday last. At about 19:30hrs, on her way home, she was approached by her reputed husband, and an argument reportedly ensued between the two over her decision to consume alcohol.
The teen housewife was reportedly pushed to the ground and kicked several times to her face and abdomen. She subsequently became unconscious, and was reportedly left on the roadside. Sometime later that night, she regained consciousness and went to her relatives’ home. Her relatives rushed her to the Health Centre at about noon on Thursday after she complained of experiencing severe pains to her abdomen following the physical abuse. She, however, died while being prepared for transfer to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC).
This newspaper was told that abrasions were evident on the young woman’s face and abdomen.
The matter was reported to the Police, and a manhunt has been launched for her reputed husband, who has since not been seen following the alleged incident.
