Wife fined for assaulting disabled husband

A couple who have been married for several years appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Friday after the wife was fined for assaulting her husband, who is wheelchair bound.
Stacy London admitted to the charge when it was read to her by Senior Magistrate Leron Daly.
The court heard that on two different occasions, the woman assaulted her disabled husband, Ethan London.
In her defence, Mrs London told the court that both incidents occurred while she was attempting to drive her vehicle out of their driveway when her husband tried to prevent her from doing same.
“As I was about to back out of the yard, he rolled his wheelchair to block me from driving out, so I came out of the car and tried to remove him but instead he held on to my hands and started behaving in a disorderly manner”.
Further, the woman stated that as a result, he fell out of the wheelchair.
After listening to her explanation, Magistrate Daly told the woman that she was wrong to assault the man since he is disabled.
Nevertheless, the woman was fined $10,000 on each charge.
