A 50-year-old Brazilian woman was taken into custody after allegedly stabbing her husband to death during an argument at Rock Creek Backdam, Puruni River, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) on Saturday evening. Dead is 53-year-old Antonio Pereira Figueredo, a gold miner from Manaus, Brazil. Based on reports received, on Saturday at about 23:00h, the couple was involved in a heated argument at their mining camp, during which the man was stabbed once in the abdomen.
The police were summoned and upon arrival at the scene, the now-deceased man was lying on the ground next to one of the camps. Upon inspection of his body, the police confirmed a stab wound to his abdomen. In addition, a kitchen knife suspected to have been the weapon used to commit the crime was recovered.
The suspect was arrested and escorted to the Bartica Police Station, where she was placed in custody. The body was escorted to the Bartica Regional Hospital and later transferred to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem.
