Williams faces disciplinary action despite being cleared to play for Conquerors

Omar Williams and Airy Hall Football Club (FC) are expected to face disciplinary proceedings following a Guyana Football Federation (GFF) investigation into the player’s registration and appearances during the 2026 season.
The investigation arose from a formal protest lodged by Timehri United after Williams represented Fruta Conquerors in their 2–0 Elite League playoff victory in June.
In response to questions from Guyana Times Sport, GFF General Secretary (GS) Pushpargha Chattopadhyay confirmed that the federation received the protest and subsequently examined the circumstances surrounding the player’s eligibility.
“The Guyana Football Federation confirms that it received a formal protest from Timehri United FC regarding the eligibility of player Omar Williams following its Elite League playoff match against Fruta Conquerors FC,” GS Chattopadhyay said.

According to the federation, Williams officially transferred from Airy Hall to Fruta Conquerors in 2025 and was properly registered with the Georgetown club at the time of the playoff.
“The GFF is satisfied that Omar Williams was duly registered with Fruta Conquerors FC at the time he represented the club in the Elite League playoff, and therefore his participation in that match was in compliance with the applicable competition regulations,” the GS stated.
However, the investigation also examined reports that Williams represented Airy Hall in competitions during February and March 2026. The GFF said documentary evidence and a written statement from Airy Hall showed that the player had misrepresented his status to the club.
“Consequently, Airy Hall FC fielded the player in competitions for which he was not eligible to participate. While the club relied on the player’s representations, it also failed to exercise the necessary due diligence to verify his eligibility before selecting him,” GS Chattopadhyay explained.
A transfer application seen by Guyana Times Sport appears to show that Airy Hall Stars gave its consent on June 24, 2025, for Omar Williams to join Fruta Conquerors. However, the document does not contain a visible GFF approval or effective date in the section reserved for official use.
The protest had raised questions about whether Williams could legally represent Conquerors after reportedly playing for Airy Hall during the same period. It also generated debate over the transfer regulations applied to the playoffs, particularly a reported restriction on players moving during the June window.
The GFF indicated that it would not comment further while the disciplinary matter remains under review.
