GOA names 20-member team for Glasgow Commonwealth Games

The Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) has named a 20-member athlete contingent to represent the country in four disciplines at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, scheduled for July 23 to August 2 in Glasgow, Scotland.
Guyana will compete in athletics, boxing, swimming and men’s 3×3 basketball, with the basketball team set to make the country’s debut in that discipline at the Commonwealth Games.
The athletics team comprises Keliza Smith, Stafon Roach, Jackson Clarke, Aaliyah Moore, Noelex Holder, Akeem Stewart, Revon Williams, Simeon Adams and Shamar Horatio. Mark Scott, Thelson Williams, and Lindon Phillips are the team officials.

Keevin Allicock, Shakquain James, Akeelah Vancooten and Emmanuel Pompey will compete in boxing, accompanied by official Lennox Daniels.
Guyana’s men’s 3×3 basketball team features Christian Hinckson, Travis Belgrave, Kevin Mickle and Anish Ramlall. Rawle Toney and Kidani Brutus are the officials assigned to the team.
Swimmers Aleka Persaud, Chase Thompson and Delroy Tyrrell complete the athlete contingent, with Ewin Enmore serving as the swimming official.
Chef de Mission Sheryl Hermonstine will lead the delegation, while physiotherapists Vanessa Wickham and Kevon David will oversee the athletes’ health and wellbeing during the Games.
Speaking at a team briefing before departure, GOA President Godfrey Munroe and Secretary General Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon congratulated the athletes and officials on earning the opportunity to represent Guyana.
Munroe praised the athletes for their commitment during their preparations and expressed confidence that they would uphold Guyana’s sporting reputation.
Persaud-McKinnon encouraged the athletes to embrace the experience, support their teammates across the four disciplines and display the values of excellence, friendship and respect.
GOA Treasurer Garfield Wiltshire also attended the briefing and extended best wishes to the delegation.
The GOA acknowledged the contributions of the national sports federations, coaches, technical officials, medical personnel, sponsors and supporters who assisted with the team’s preparation.
Approximately 3000 athletes from 74 Commonwealth nations and territories are expected to compete in the 23rd edition of the Games. The programme comprises 10 sports and includes the largest integrated Para sport programme in Commonwealth Games history.
Editor’s Note: While Guyana’s initial Commonwealth Games 2026 team comprised 20 athletes, the number of competing athletes has been slashed to 16 as a result of the boxing team’s ineligibility to compete. This is as a result of the team’s genetic testing results not being returned before the deadline to ensure their participation.
However, the boxing team had already travelled to Glasgow, Scotland, before those misfortunes unfolded.
