Windies Women shift focus to World Cup after Tri-Nation win

Chinelle Henry

In spite of an abandoned match on Wednesday as a result of inclement weather, spirits in the West Indies Women’s camp remained high.
This is owing to a solid bowling performance from the Caribbean ladies, which came before their clash with Pakistan at Castle Avenue, Dublin, was abandoned.
Stand-in Captain Chinelle Henry, following the no-result, shared her thoughts on their performance.
“I think the team did really well; obviously, having them at 111 for like seven or eight in 17 overs is pretty good with the result we had the other game, which was very disappointing for us, and again today – another abandoned game,” Henry told CWI Media following the match.
She added, “I couldn’t ask for much more support from the girls. First time out being Captain, and I can truly say I really enjoyed it.”
Similarly, Assistant Coach Damien Wright thought the bowlers did a commendable job.

West Indies’ Women were declared winners of the Tri-Nation series

Wright chimed in, “It was a pretty good effort with the ball, I reckon. We started really well; I was really pleased with Zaida’s efforts up front with the new ball. We’re taking early wickets on a pretty regular basis, so it was a nice start.”
With the 2026 International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s T20 World Cup on the horizon, Henry highlighted the team’s flexibility with roles.
The stand-in Captain explained, “As I said, we’re going into a World Cup, so obviously everybody here knows the reason why they’re here. So, whether we switch players around or it’s the same players, everybody knows their job, and everybody knows what they have to do.”
“The players I had today, I kinda had an idea what is it exactly we wanted to do as a unit, and I think the girls went out and did that really well,” Henry further noted.
As a result of another abandoned encounter between hosts Ireland and Pakistan on Thursday morning, West Indies’ Women were declared the winner of the Tri-Nation series, on the account of a higher net run rate. Both the West Indies and hosts Ireland had two wins, a loss and an abandoned game during their four-match campaigns.
They will now shift focus to the World Cup warm-ups, which they will begin on Monday, June 8, against India’s women.
