St Rose’s, Bishops’, Tutorial, QC advance to YBG Regional semis

The quarter-final stage of the Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) ‘Geo City’ Regional Championships produced exciting action on Tuesday, June 3, as St Rose’s High School, The Bishops’ High School A, Tutorial High School and Queen’s College (QC) secured victories to advance to the semi-final round.
St Rose’s High School delivered the most dominant performance of the day, overwhelming Christ Church Secondary 70-1 in Game One. Leading the charge was Player of the Game Nathan Williams, who recorded 20 points and nine rebounds. He received strong support from Shequan Callendar, who contributed 15 points, six rebounds and six steals. Christian Williams added eight points, five assists and 10 rebounds, while Dequan Fraser chipped in with seven points, six assists and eight steals.
Game Two featured a closely contested battle between The Bishops’ High School A and St Stanislaus College. Bishops emerged with a hard-fought 35-30 victory behind a Player of the Game performance from Jonathan Nazier, who scored 13 points and grabbed three rebounds. Kimol Pickering controlled the boards with 13 rebounds while adding nine points and three assists, while Eli Acher contributed eight points, five rebounds and five steals. For St Stanislaus College, Quasie Newton led all scorers with 16 points in a valiant effort.

The Bishops’ High’s Jonathan Nazier

Tutorial High School booked its place in the semi-finals with a convincing 38-19 win over Marian Academy in Game Three. Player of the Game Keion Lynch paced Tutorial with 15 points, five rebounds and five steals. Julian Charles matched Lynch’s scoring output with 15 points and also collected six rebounds. Marian Academy was led by Lucas Pinol, who scored seven points and recorded five steals, while Nyl George pulled down 11 rebounds and added five steals.
In the final quarter-final matchup, QC defeated Brickdam Secondary 35-19. Player of the Game Deshawn Gurrick spearheaded the victory with 13 points, five rebounds and four steals. Darren Dublin provided valuable support with 10 points and four rebounds. For Brickdam Secondary, Akili Layne scored 10 points and grabbed four rebounds.
The Regional Championships are being sponsored by Edward B Beharry Ltd, G-Boats Inc, the National Sports Commission, the Ministry of Education, and Banks DIH Ltd.
With the semi-finals now set, fans can expect more intense competition as the remaining teams continue their quest for the Geo City Regional championship title.
