Windies Women suffer defeat in rain-hit game as England clinch series

England Women have opened an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match One Day International (ODI) Series with a 121-run victory over West Indies on Sunday last.

Player of the match, Anya Shrubsole, cuts loose during her 32

Tammy Beaumont hit a top-score of 61 for England, and Nat Sciver’s 35 helped England post 233-7 in 41 overs, after winning the toss.
Player of the match, Anya Shrubsole, and Kate Cross then took two wickets each as West Indies, in pursuit of a revised target of 209 in 28 overs, slumped to 87-6 in the allotted 28 overs.
Lone Guyanese Shemaine Campbelle top-scored with 29 for the Windies Women, while Hayley Matthews scored 17.
England will look to complete a whitewash at Chelmsford on Thursday in the third and final ODI.
This victory earned the English two points in the International Cricket Council’s Women’s Championship, and took them to the verge of qualification for the 2021 World Cup in New Zealand.

Stafanie Taylor reacts during the second ODI

So, while improvements were noticeable, there was still an obvious gulf in class, particularly in terms of application and intent; with the Windies Women showing little or no desire to chase the readjusted target of 209 from 28 overs on the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method after the rain had abated.
West Indies captain Stafanie Taylor was pleased with the work put in by her bowlers. She declared that “it was good to revisit the videos that we had, and for us to come out and bowl the way that we did”.
Taylor added, post the second ODI, that the loss of quick wickets played a role in her team’s defeat, as the chase never got underway.
“We have another game to play, and it was important to see what the bowlers were bowling and get some practice in before the final ODI” on Thursday, Taylor disclosed.
