Wismar Phase 1 allottees begin identifying house lots

– over 1600 house lots to be identified

Months after the Housing Ministry assured allottees of the new Wismar Housing Development, Phase One, that they would soon be able to identify and visit their house lots, the first group of allottees was invited on Wednesday to identify their respective residential plots.

Led by the Ministry’s surveyors, each allottee was guided to the correct location and permitted to mark their plot. This exercise continued on Thursday and will end today.
In addition, a second group of allottees will be contacted at a later date, as their plots become accessible.
More than 1600 residential plots have been allocated within the development, where approximately $5.5 billion is being invested in essential infrastructure works. Phases One and Two cover about 355 acres, and include dedicated spaces for recreational facilities, a Police Outpost, and other modern amenities.
The Ministry encourages allottees participating in Lot Identification Exercises to regularly check their plots. This will help prevent encroachment and the common problem of others mistakenly building on the wrong lot.

Back in early 2025, the Ministry conducted allocation exercises that significantly reduced the backlog of housing applications in Region 10. Subject Minister Collin Croal noted that the Government remains committed to ensuring that beneficiaries transition from allocation to homeownership promptly.
Phase One of the development represents an investment of close to $2 billion, while Phase Two carries an estimated cost of $3.5 billion. Land clearing has already commenced for Phase Two, with contractors mobilised and timelines firmly in place.
Croal also reaffirmed the Government’s ongoing commitment to constructing 40,000 homes nationwide, noting that Region 10 will benefit directly from this programme.
He added that the Ministry would continue engagements, technical assessments, and planning to facilitate the commencement of home construction in the development.
Since the establishment of the Regional Housing Office in Linden, the Ministry has placed strong emphasis on ensuring adequate staffing and improving service delivery to meet the needs of the growing population.
The office currently provides vital land allocation, processing, and community development support to residents of Linden and surrounding communities, including Kwakwani.
