Nearly 10 years after a crime was allegedly committed, a man is standing trial for sexual activity with a minor. Josiah Baptiste is accused of carnal knowledge of a girl under 15 years. The incident was said to have occurred in a community in Greater Georgetown, sometime between June 1 and 30, 2007. The accused was charged back in February 2009. Over seven witnesses have testified so far and another witness is scheduled to take the stand later this week. A 12-member jury was on Monday empaneled in a matter that is being heard before High Court judge, Justice Jo-Ann Barlow.
Shawnette Austin is leading the State’s case and is assisted by fellow prosecutors Mandell Moore and Tamica Clarke. The accused is being represented by attorney Folia Richards and Maxwell McKay.
