The highlight of the last round of the Wolf’s Challenge Cup Softball cricket competition was the upset of Floodlights Master by Wolf Warriors Masters at the Malteeonoes on Sunday last.
Wolf Warriors Masters did well to bowl out the more experienced Floodlights for 93 in 17.2 overs with only Wayne Jones 25 coming to the
party. R. Narine had two wickets for three runs, S. Yusuf 2-11and M. Vieira 2-28. In reply, the Wolf Warriors Masters reached 95-5 from 16.4 overs with R Sankar making 26 and R. Narine 23. Wayne Jones came back with the ball taking 2-16 and Clyde Canterberry picked up 2-21.
In other matches; Fisherman Masters defeated Tropical Springs by 6 wickets. Tropical Springs 49-7 from 20 overs with Anil Rambarran
claiming three wickets for 14 runs. Fisherman raced home to 51/5 in 10.3 overs with L. Ramdin 3-38 and Azimullah 2-14.
Then in the final match of the day, Superior Woods defeated Parika Defenders by 8 wickets. Parika defenders got to a challenging 146 All Out in 19.1 overs. P. Balgobin top scored with 46 and Beesham made 26 while Mark Fung had three for 20, F. Kumar three for 25 and Peter Persaud two for 20. Superior Woods replied positively and got to 147/3 in just 16 overs. F. Kumar had a good match scoring 44. He got good support from Mohamed Rafeek 40 and John Flintoff 34. F. Mohamed had a good spell picking up two wickets for four runs.
The tournament continues this weekend also at the Malteenoes Ground.
On Pitch One; Regal Masters take on Savage Masters at 10:00h while on Pitch Two Superior Woods engage Albion Masters at the same time.
In the afternoon from 13:00h, Fisherman Masters meet HS Masters on Pitch One while Tropical Springs battle Savage Masters.
There are also two matches scheduled for the Tuschen Ground, East Bank Essequibo also on Sunday. At 10:00h Wolf Warriors Masters look to continue their winning ways when they meet Wellman then at 13:00h Floodlights look for redemption against the home team Parika Defenders.
