Woman accused of setting house on fire on bail

What was left of the house that was destroyed in Tuesday evening’s fire

A pregnant woman was granted bail after she was arrested for allegedly setting her partner’s two-storey North Ruimveldt, Georgetown home on fire during an argument on Tuesday evening.
Regional Commander Simon McBean confirmed that the woman was granted bail, but he was not sure if the woman had confessed to committing the crime. However, he stated that investigations were ongoing.
It was reported that on Tuesday last, the pregnant woman and her partner, who is the owner of the property, were engaged in a heated argument.
Neighbours told Police that later in the evening, they heard the accused requesting eggs to eat, but at the time, there was none in the house. This led to another argument, which lasted longer than the usual spats.
It is alleged that during the argument, the man walked out of the yard leaving the woman behind. Soon after, there were sounds of dishes falling to the floor.
Within minutes, there was a loud explosion which was followed by flames. This occurred sometime around 21:30h.
The building was completely destroyed by the fire, with nothing salvaged.
Three persons occupied the home – the owner and his two tenants. Following the incident, the pregnant woman, who resides at another address, was taken into custody.
