A woman has been arrested after she tried to sneak a quantity of ganja into the Lusignan Prison, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
Reports are that the incident occurred at about 12:30h on Thursday, when
a rank of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) was on duty at the self-support reception desk at the prison.

The 25-year-old woman, of Archer Street, Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo, had gone to the prison to drop off some items. Guyana Times understands that the woman presented a black plastic bag to the Police rank, and a search conducted on the said bag found three deodorants.
Upon further checking, a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis were found hidden at the bottom of the deodorant bottles.
The woman was told of the offence, cautioned, arrested and then taken to the Vigilance Police Station, where the narcotics, when weighed, amounted to 25 grams.
She remains in custody, pending charges.
Over the years, several persons have smuggled, and continue to smuggle, narcotics into local prisons. Recently, a 23-year-old woman was arrested after she attempted to smuggle a quantity of ganja into the New Amsterdam Prison in two papayas.
