Woman robbed at Vreed-en-Hoop Stelling

During the bustle at the Vreed-en-Hoop Stelling on Tuesday morning to board a speedboat owing to the Demerara Harbour Bridge shutdown, one woman was robbed of her handbag.
Guyana Times was informed that the woman, Jelisha (only name given), had just entered the stelling at about 07:10h. As a result of the long lines, she was clustered between a group of people and at that instance, a man snatched her handbag and faded away in the crowd.
“I was standing right by the gate because we had to wait to go up. And I just feel someone tugging at the bag and thought it was because there was a lot of people around me…Like a couple seconds after, I realised that I wasn’t holding the bag anymore and realised that somebody take it. When I look at the side, it was a guy and he was running,” she told Guyana Times.
Among the valuables in the brown handbag were $21,000 along with US$50, one iPhone, one charger, a pair of earrings and identification documents.
On Monday, persons were left with no choice but to use the water taxi service after a barge and tug slammed into the Bridge, leaving it inoperable. It was finally opened on Tuesday evening to light traffic.
