Kevin Campbell

The Police stated on March 7 and 8, 2019 at the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA), Camp Street, Georgetown, with intent to defraud, he obtained the sum of $150,000 from Jiram Rampersaud and $300,000 from Malinie Rampersaud by pretending that he was employed at GRA and was in a position to sell them one Toyota Primo Car, knowing same to be false.
The last charge stated that on July 3, 2019 at Robb and King Street, Georgetown, while being in lawful custody, he escaped from the said custody.
Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield told the court that in January 2019, the couple made contact with Campbell, who told them that he was employed at Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) and was in a position to sell two vehicles which were seized.
In March, the victims handed over the monies to the defendant but after sometime, he failed to deliver the vehicle. The matters were reported, an investigation was launched, which led to his arrest.
The court further heard that on July 3, 2019, while being in custody, he jumped out of Police vehicle in the vicinity of Robb and King Street, Georgetown. He was later apprehended.
The Magistrate, after listening to the facts, sentenced Campbell to two years each on the two charges of obtaining monies by false pretense and one-year imprisonment for escaping lawful custody; however the sentences will run concurrently, which will see Campbell spending only two years.
