Woman who fatally stabbed brother gets bail on manslaughter charge
Thirty-one-year-old Lasheena Morgow, who fatally stabbed her brother, was released on $250,000 bail after being charged with manslaughter when she appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Wales Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
During her court appearance, she was not required to plead to the indictable charge which alleged that on November 22, 2020, at Parika Backdam, East Bank Essequibo, she unlawfully killed 20-year-old Alex Morgow. She will make another court appearance on December 16, 2020.
It was reported that the now dead young man was stabbed once to the left side chest and died almost immediately. Based on information, on the day in question, the young man and his 36-year-old reputed wife Joyann Atkinson were involved in a physical altercation over the food she had prepared.
Police said that the now dead man pushed Atkinson to the ground and began slapping and kicking her in the presence of his sister, who later intervened. This resulted in an altercation between the siblings. It was then the sister ran into the kitchen, armed herself with a knife, and rushed back to her brother.
The argument continued, during which she stabbed him. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Leonora Cottage Hospital.
