The Ethnic Relations Commission on Saturday hosted its award ceremony for the National Poetry, Song and Social Media Competitions at the Seawall Bandstand in Georgetown, as part of Guyana’s 60th Independence Anniversary Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
The event, themed “Celebrating 60 Years of Heritage, Reflection and Respect,” brought together commissioners, educators, parents, and other stakeholders to recognise the work of young participants in poetry, music, and digital storytelling.
The ceremony began with interfaith prayers led by Dr Naeem Barlow (Islamic community), Reverend Fr Theodore DeMonick (Christian community), and Shivraj Balkissoon (Hindu community), reflecting themes of religious diversity and national unity.
Deputy Chairman of the Ethnic Relations Commission, Commissioner Charles Ogle in opening remarks emphasised the role of creative expression in promoting unity, respect, and national pride among young people.
