Zeeburg defeat Cornelia Ida

West Demerara Cricket Association’s T20 Competition…

-as Dhaniram, Azim, Looknauth dominate

The Cornelia Ida Cricket Club battled Zeeburg Sports Club on Sunday in the West Demerara Cricket Association’s T20 competition that celebrates Guyana’s 50th Anniversary as a Republic.

Arshad Azim and Richie Looknauth shared an unbeaten 94-run partnership

This matchup resulted in a 9-wicket triumph for Cornelia Ida through the dominant performances of Vickash Dhaniram, Richie Looknauth and Arshad Azim.
With this match being played at the Meten-Meer-Zorg ground, where Zeeburg have registered many of their record-breaking victories, Zeeburg won the toss and batted first, fully expecting the outcome to be business as usual. However, things did not go their way this time, and they found themselves tied down from the first delivery bowled.
Maintaining a disciplined line and length, the Cornelia Ida side had their opponents struggling for runs as wily bowlers Vickash Dhaniram took 6 wickets for 24 runs and Richie Looknauth pitched in with 2 wickets for 12 runs.
Zeeburg’s ever-reliable batsman Yutesh Dhanpaul led from the front with a handy 39, even as Malcolm Hubbard scored 26 and Andre Seepersaud chipped in with an unbeaten 21. The other batsmen, however, failed to hold on to their wickets, although a few cameos were played; and Zeeburg folded for 132 runs made in 19 overs.
Needing 133 for victory off 120 balls, Cornelia Ida lost Khellawan Tulcan for 23, but Richie Looknauth joined the already set Arshad Azim, and the pair blasted a match winning 94 that was enough for the win.
The game ended in 15.1 overs with the score on 135-1, as Azim finished unbeaten on 56, and Looknauth was likewise unbeaten on 50.
