Jermine & Family Linden Mash Cup Football Championship…

Bakewell Topp XX’s forward player Keon Hall has been named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) to have participated in the Jermine & Family Linden Mash Cup football tournament, which concluded on Friday night with ‘the finals’ being contested by Topp XX and Coomacka Mines at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground.

This was in the distribution of accolades after Topp XX had edged Coomacka 1-0 to emerge winners of the tournament.
As captain of his team, Hall had scored the goals which eventually enabled Topp XX to cart away the tournament winners’ prize of $600,000.
His goal in the semifinal match had facilitated Topp XX achieving a 1-1 stalemate with Haynes and Lewis Winners Connection, before going on to beat them 7-6 on penalty kicks.
He then netted the lone goal in Topp XX’s final match in the tournament: against Coomacka Mines, which Topp XX won to emerge winners of this prestigious and lucrative tournament.
Hall’s achievements saw his side become the inaugural holders of this title on Friday, and him become owner of the Alwyn Bynoe Trophy, a pair of soccer shoes from Jerry Faucet, and a king or queen-sized bed from McRae’s Hardware and General Store.
His teammate Travis Waterton was declared ‘Top Scorer’ in the tournament with four goals, more than three other players who each had three goals. Waterton won for himself a pair of soccer shoes donated by former national player Rickland ‘Tallo’ Hutson.
Delroy Conteh took the ‘Best Defender’ trophy.
Coomacka’s Kellon Major was adjudged the ‘Best Goalkeeper’ for his great saves throughout the tournament. He won himself a smart phone donated by Melville’s Variety Store of Wisrock. And Shymah Samuels, adjudged ‘the youngest player of the tournament’, received a bicycle from Snooks Variety Store.
The four coaches of the teams that participated in the semi-finals: Bakewell Topp XX, Coomacka, Botafago and Haynes and Lewis Winners Connection, each received a food hamper from Edward B Beharry & Company.
Champions Topp XX won $600,000; runners-up Coomacka won $300,000; third-placed Botafago won $200,000, and fourth-placed Winners Connection won $100,000.
