The Government has processed more than 424,000 citizens for the National $100,000 Cash Grant programme, with the distribution process continuing across the country, according to Senior Minister in the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance Dr Ashni Singh. In an update issued on Monday, Dr Singh said the distribution exercise has been progressing smoothly, with additional citizens receiving their grants since the Government’s last update.
The Minister recalled that on March 19, 2026, a total of 48,858 Central Government employees, including public servants, teachers and members of the disciplined services, received cash grants amounting to $4.9 billion. He also highlighted the success of the online registration portal, which was launched on March 26, 2026. As of June 15, 2026, a total of 279,546 persons who successfully completed self-registration have received their grants, while another 4,053 applicants remain at various stages of the registration process. According to Dr Singh, when combined with the 48,858 Central Government employees who received direct payments, the total number of citizens paid through direct transfers to their bank accounts stands at 328,404. The Government also implemented measures to ensure that eligible citizens without access to banking services were included in the programme. Registration teams were dispatched to hinterland and remote communities, as well as to shelters, hostels and senior citizens’ homes, to assist individuals who were unable to access the online system or did not have bank accounts. These persons were subsequently processed for cheque payments. Singh said a total of 96,277 individuals in these categories have been processed through this method. Overall, the Minister reported that 424,681 persons have been processed under the National Cash Grant initiative to date, representing approximately $42.5 billion. He encouraged all eligible Guyanese who have not yet registered for the grant to do so through the Government’s online portal. He also noted that persons requiring assistance with registration can visit the cash grant website and indicate the type of support needed.
During the previous national cash grant initiative in late 2024 into 2025, more than $60 billion of disposable income was transferred into the pockets of over 600,000 Guyanese. Another $60 billion is expected to be transferred in this second round of distribution. These two cash distribution exercises come on the heels of the first National Cash Grant of $25,000 per household that was paid when the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) resumed office in 2020 in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
