Zeelugt security guard found dead in trench

The lifeless body of 43-year-old Mohammed Zaheer, a security guard employed by the Krishna Mangal and Sons Lumber Yard, was discovered floating in a trench near the business’s Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo location on Wednesday, after reporting for work on Tuesday afternoon.

Zaheer, of Lot 852 Zeelugt, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Leonora Cottage Hospital. His body was subsequently taken to the Ezekiel Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
Regional Police Commander Simon McBean told Guyana Times on Wednesday that preliminary investigations revealed that the man’s body was discovered around 07:15h by another employee, after which Police ranks were summoned to the scene.
The Police Commander added that investigators found no marks of violence on Zaheer’s body, but investigations are still ongoing.
Speaking with this publication, the man’s daughter, Marisa Shakoor, said that her family was in shock over her father’s sudden death.
Shakoor, who is the eldest of Zaheer’s three children, added that her father left home on Tuesday around 16:00h, but she never thought that would be the last time she would see him.
“This morning (Wednesday) I asked Mommy if Daddy come home and she said no. I thought he went by his sister. I went out and come back and I asked her again, if he came home and she said no….While I was praying at the seawall, one of his relatives come up there and asked how far your father is, I said he ain’t come home yet and I don’t know how far he is. And he said your father dead, when he said that I was shocked,” she said.
The grieving young woman described her father as a friendly, hardworking and dedicated man, who was well-known in their community. The dead man leaves to mourn his widow, Monica Surujnarain and three children, aged 19, 17 and one.
