14-year-old Jockey shines bright at Labour Day cup

Guyana’s horse racing has moved to the next level, and the growth of horse racing will require the next generation to step up.
The 14-year-old prodigy, Arvin Dhanraj, has done exactly that, levelling up to record two first-place positions at the Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club on Sunday last in the Labour Day Cup.
He secured wins in the G Class and Lower WI Bred non-winner with Soca Synergy, and he won the K & L Maiden open to first-time starters for Gilles and mares with Country Gold.

For Dhanraj, the love for horse racing runs deep in his family’s bloodline.
“Since I grew up, I like horses. My uncles have racehorses, so they pushed me to become a jockey.”
“I am working hard towards that (being champion jockey),” Dhanraj said.
For Dhanraj, his success is guided by experienced individuals.
“The trainer said to put her (Country Gold) out and hold when she reach the two furlongs. It was an easy race,” the teenage jockey said.
Dhanraj will return to action on Sunday, May 31, when the Jumbo Jet Thoroughbred Racing Stables presents its Independence Cup at Rising Sun Turf Club.
