Briton John powers to victory at Jude Bentley Memorial Race

The 2026 Jude Bentley Memorial Cycle Race pedalled off on Sunday, May 3, at the inner circuit of the National Park, Georgetown with a full day of competitive racing across multiple categories as cyclists honoured late National cyclist, Jude Bentley.
In the feature Open (Seniors) event, Briton John powered to victory over 30 laps to claim the top prize of $50,000, finishing ahead of Alex Mendes and Jamaul John, who secured second and third respectively. Alex Newton crossed the line fourth, while Robin Persaud and Andre Greene completed the top six. The top six were awarded $40,000, $35,000, $25,000, $20,000 and $15,000 in corresponding order.
The Veterans Open category saw experienced rider Robin Persaud take first place over the eight-lap distance, followed by Segun Hubbard and Paul Choo-wee-nam. In the Veterans Over-50 division, contested over six laps, Talim Shaw led the field to the finish ahead of Junior Niles and Ray Harlequin.

In the Juniors division, also raced over eight laps, Alex Newton continued his impressive form to take top honours, finishing ahead of Kevon Stephens. Newton later returned to secure victory in the Upright/Mountain Bike category, which was contested over six laps, defeating Marcus Keiler and Seon Budhan. The Category Four race, another eight-lap event, was won by Collis Williams, with Julio Melville and Dave Bissoon occupying the other podium positions in that order.
On the women’s side, Shernna Alder claimed the Ladies title over the two-lap race, finishing ahead of Rebecca Daymon to earn the top prize.
The BMX segment featured several youth divisions, with Jamilla Samuels (girls 6–8), Cadeem Bascom (boys 6–8), Delisa Luke (girls 9–11), Prince Johnson (boys 9–11), Shemiah Johnson (girls 12–14), and Jamar Samuels (boys 12–14) all emerging as winners in their respective categories. The BMX races were run over one lap each, with medals awarded to the top three finishers.
