The monetary award is expected to assist the students with their school needs in order to make their school life easier.
Speaking at the brief ceremony held at the bank’s main branch in Kingston, Georgetown, Executive Director of GBTI, Richard Isava encouraged the students to be consistent and to remain focused at all times.
“During this phase of your life, you can be easily distracted by the natural and social pressures in school or in the society as a whole. But remember that you are not alone – you have support and keep telling yourself you can make it and if you keep reassuring yourself you will succeed. You have come this far; you should only seek to climb higher” the Director encouraged.
Isava noted that GBTI continues to believe in investing in the future and in providing opportunities for their growth and development.
“Our Early Savers Account is one way in which we support growth and development of our young people. You would know about some of the other features and benefits of being in our Early Savers Club but today I want to underscore the importance of Education…” Isava said.
Also, in attendance at the ceremony was Assistant Chief Executive Officer (Primary) of the Education Ministry, Owen Pollard, who delivered brief remarks, also encouraging the students to keep working hard for their achievements.
Guyana Times spoke to two of the awardees including special needs student Jonathon Robinson, who expressed his gratitude to have been selected to be recognised.
The young man encouraged parents to open accounts with GBTI so that their children can benefit in the future.
Devine Amsterdam, who was awarded a place at Queen’s College, said that she is proud to be among those chosen by the financial institution.
“I’m proud to be here, to be collecting a gift from GBTI. I have been an Early Saver since I was born so I am really happy for the support that GBTI have been giving to us” the student expressed.
Over the years, GBTI has seen some of the country’s top performers emanating from their Early Savers Club including last year’s top performer, Nalia Rahaman.
Presently, GBTI also offers financial support for students wishing to pursue their tertiary education. However, this is not limited to students only but to all customers.
