16 schools set for East Berbice/Corentyne showdown in Beharry Schools T20

East Berbice/Corentyne schools are gearing up for the start of the Beharry Schools Cricket Tournament, with 16 secondary schools set to battle for regional supremacy when the competition bowls off on June 13 across several venues in Region Six.
The tournament’s Zone Seven (East Berbice/Corentyne) teams recently gathered for an official briefing where organisers, teachers, students and cricket officials discussed preparations ahead of the opening round. The meeting focused on competition guidelines, sportsmanship and opportunities for young players to showcase their talents.

Region Six Coordinator Ameer Rahaman welcomed the participants and encouraged all teams to compete with discipline and pride while representing their schools. He also thanked the teachers and students for attending the briefing session.
Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) Secretary Ryan Algu highlighted the importance of the tournament to youth cricket development and expressed appreciation to the Beharry Group for supporting the initiative. He noted that competitions of this nature provide an important platform for identifying and nurturing emerging talent across the region.
Adding further significance to the tournament, BCB Chief Junior Selector Balram Samaroo informed attendees that he will be present at matches throughout the competition as part of efforts to identify players for future representative opportunities.
School representatives also used the briefing to raise questions, offer suggestions and discuss concerns relating to the competition. Participants thanked the organisers and sponsors for creating an avenue for student-athletes to compete in a structured environment.
The opening round of matches will be played on Saturday, June 13. At the Skeldon Ground, Tagore Memorial will face Line Path from 10:00h. The Canje Ground will host Vrymans Erven against New Amsterdam from 09:30h, followed by Berbice High versus Canje at 13:30h. At the Port Mourant Ground, Black Bush will take on Manchester from 09:30h, while Corentyne Comprehensive meets Port Mourant at 13:30h. Albion Ground will stage the clash between Lower Corentyne and JC Chandisingh from 10:00h.
The first-round action concludes on Sunday, June 14, when Tutorial faces BEI at the Canje Ground from 10:00h.
With selectors expected to monitor performances closely and championship honours on the line, organisers anticipate an exciting tournament that will highlight some of the brightest young cricketing talent in East Berbice and Corentyne.
