178 graduated from GITC at 53rd graduation exercise

One hundred and seventy-eight (178) of the country’s young men and women graduated with honours from the Guyana Industrial Training Centre (GITC), after successfully completing various skill programmes.

The graduates were recipients of both the National Vocational Qualification certificate and Caribbean Vocational Qualification certificate for expertise in areas such as data operations, masonry, metalwork engineering, plumbing, motor vehicle repairs, furniture making, electrical installation and welding.
Chairman of GITC and Government Technical Institute’s (GTI) Board, Vincent Alexander urged the graduates to understand the standards to which they were exposed.
He charged them to pursue higher qualifications and keep abreast with developments in their particular field so they remain relevant.

Delivering the feature address at the 53rd ceremony, was Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Guyana, Professor Michael Scott. He told the graduates that the graduation exercise marks the provision of employable people in the new dispensation within Guyana.
As such, he encouraged them to set themselves another target. “It’s better to aim at something and miss than to aim at nothing and always hit it.”
The graduation was held under the theme “Embracing change, and strengthening capacity”.
The theme, according to the GITC’s administrator, Dexter Cornette, delivers a message that it is essential to remain relevant in order to create an impact in society.
With this, he disclosed that for 2019 only, the centre graduated its largest batch in history, with its enrolment for the 2019-2020 year being 401. Meanwhile, office administration and refrigeration along with AC repair will be added to the list of programmes.
