2 arrested for cocaine, ganja in separate incidents in Mabaruma, Parfaite Harmonie

Two males have been arrested for cocaine and ganja possession in separate incidents in Mabaruma, North West District (Region One) and La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara (Region Three).

The ganja that was found in the shop at La Parfaite Harmonie

On Monday between 14:00h and 18:00h, ranks from the Mabaruma Police Station conducted a stop-and-search raid/exercise in the District, and several persons were intercepted and searched.
Consequently, Police said, one male of mixed race was seen acting in a suspicious manner, and a search was conducted on his person. During the search, 15 packets of a white substance suspected to be cocaine were in the man’s possession.
Police said the narcotics were weighed and amounted to 1.7 grams. The suspect has been placed in custody, pending investigations.
Meanwhile, on the same day, at about 23:30h, Police ranks of Regional Division #3 arrested a 35-year-old man after 124 grams of cannabis were found in a shop that he operates.

The cocaine that was found in Mabaruma

The ranks were performing mobile patrol duties in the La Parfaite Harmonie community when they observed the man standing in the shop acting suspiciously.
The ranks stopped and engaged the man, and he told them he is the owner of the shop. The ranks asked the man to subject himself to a search, and he agreed.
During a further search of the premises, a rank unearthed a transparent plastic bag containing several Ziplock bags of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis under the shop’s counter.
The man was told of the offence, and was cautioned. He denied ownership of the cannabis, saying, “I don’t know about da!”
He was then arrested and escorted to La Parfaite Harmonie Police Station, along with the cannabis. The drug was weighed in the presence of the suspect, and it amounted to 124 grams.
Further investigations are ongoing.
