…car was impounded by GRA with large quantity of firecrackers
A man who had his car impounded on December 29 last year by the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) has now been detained after a detailed search carried out on the vehicle uncovered two illegal firearms.
According to a Police report, the motor car was impounded at GRA’s bond in Berbice at Springlands, Corentyne after a large quantity of firecrackers and other items were discovered stashed inside by GRA’s Enforcement Officers.
However, acting on information, a thorough search was conducted on the impounded vehicle over the weekend, in the presence of the driver, when two unlicensed firearms were found under the bonnet of the vehicle.
One of the guns is an unlicensed .32 pistol and the other is a single-barrel shotgun which the Police said was disassembled.
As such, the car owner was questioned about the discovery and has since denied having knowledge of the illegal weapons.
He is presently in Police custody and is said to be assisting with the investigations.
